Agbeloba Community Initiative Society (ACIS) began in 2020 as a grassroots response to the growing need for affordable, culturally appropriate food for Alberta’s Black community, especially newcomers. Recognizing the barriers many immigrants face in accessing familiar, quality foods, we committed ourselves to meeting this need by connecting people with culturally relevant meals and food products.
Over the years, our efforts have expanded beyond food access. We now provide support for new immigrants through essential settlement resources, including baby items for new mothers, helping families make a strong start in their new community. We also connect newcomers with valuable community resources and networks, creating a supportive environment that promotes integration and belonging.
